About The French Knot

My name is Laura Grossman and I am the owner and operator of The French Knot. My vision for the shop was to create a place; a haven for needleartists.

I wanted to be a shop owner who would offer my customers what they wanted; that which would beautify their lives by beautifying themselves through creativity.

In honesty, I toyed with different ideas; a book store, a florist, silk arrangements and collectibles. I decided the needlearts enabled me to include many aspects of what my vision of the shop would be.

The French Knot  offers me a new challenge. I was a stay at home mom for 13 years raising our 4 daughters. This was a challenge I readily enjoyed and at times miss. Now the girls are at an age where I am more of a consultant and business manager than anything else. They are pretty self sufficient, with plenty of poking and prodding. And it felt as if the next chapter of my life was ready to begin. Time for me to again take on a challenge that I readily enjoy. One that often leads me to exhaustion but brings me a great sense of accomplishment.

I consider myself a life long learner and really enjoyed the process of getting the shop off the ground. I now am working very hard at gradually increasing the inventory and offerings of The French Knot. My philosophy is one that the shop is a work in progress, one that will never be complete. It will always be growing and changing. It will never be perfect or 'done'. My belief is that pleasure can come from the process not only the final outcome.

The French Knot  allows me to create! My favorite! I took a vanilla shell of a space and turned it into a shop in France. Well,... close. I had been shopping for this place for about 2 years. Everytime I saw a piece I knew would 'fit', I'd grab it and stash it away for when the time arrived. I had quite a collection of ideas and stuff culled in the basement. When I had the site, I then finished off this fabulously wonderful stage by purchasing displays and furniture pieces that I had my eye on for months.

The best part of all the display pieces that you will see in the shop is that everything was a great find, a coupon purchase, or bought where you would never have guessed. I had scoured Pottery Barn and Ballard Designs Catalogues for years getting the ideas that I eventually implemented into the shop's decor'. Why tell you this? Because I believe that there are the finer things in life and that we must enjoy them. However, if you know what you want and can picture if in your head you can make it work, come to life using whatever your means can provide.
